The Absence of Closure, was a documentary that was supposed to be made by filmmaker Lisa Arlington examining the tragedy of ambiguous loss. When production started in January 2014, she convinced by cousin James Donnelly, Heather's younger brother, to be interviewed for the film.

By that May, he was gone. James and the other people working on the documentary disappeared just like Heather.
